Lorraine was our first Nanny. In 1989, we hired Lorraine to take care of my newborn son for a couple hours twice a week so that I could ride my horse. Mostly I followed Lorraine around the house to learn how I should be taking care of my son, since I had virtually no experience with babies. Lorraine observed the most minute features of James and his personality. She taught me the importance of noticing. Later, Lorraine taught me about love and commitment. She accepted good times and bad, and never wavered in her unconditional love. Lorraine was like a mother to me as I underwent and recovered from chemotherapy when my children were 2 and 5 months. We were driving home from a session of "The Course in Miracles" and I became very weepy and expressed how grateful I was for Lorraine's mothering of me during my illness. She stopped the car and enveloped me in her arms as I released my sadness, fear and gratitude. She helped me have faith in life. To Charles, Jan, Donna, Carol and Richard-- I will always treasure the time I spent in your circle of love at the hospital. I feel that each of you are living testaments to your Mom (wife for Richard). You are an amazing family, and I'm so glad that I know each of you. Even though I am not with you this weekend, please know that I am sending energy of love, gratitude and celebration for knowing Lorraine and living from the influence she has had, and continues to have in my life. Much love, Kim Arndt
