Darwin George Shipman passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 in Vancouver. Born on September 18, 1929 in Iowa City, Iowa, Darwin was 77 years old. A former postal clerk for the railroads, Darwin worked as a machinist before his retirement and also was a former member of the Silver Star Search and Rescue. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed deep sea fishing and fishing for salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, working with metals, tending to his greenhouse, and loving his seven birds. Darwin is survived by his daughter Pamela Mathewson of Arizona, sisters Charlotte Sorenson of Vancouver, Burdette Shipman, Marcene Swantz, Nelda Sego, Garnita Miller all of Iowa, and Sharol Williams of Arizona, brothers Curtis Shipman of Montana, and Carlin Shipman of Iowa, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years Rozella Shipman (2005), sister Karen Kay Hanson, and brothers Gary Shipman and Paul Shipman. A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd at Memory Memorial Park in Vancouver. Memorials in Darwin's memory may be made to The American Heart Association or to the Southwest Washington Humane Society. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
