Harry Ernest Rasmussen peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2007 in Washougal. Born to Ernest and Dorothy Rasmussen on June 17, 1918 in Hespero, Alberta Canada, Harry was 88 years old.
An 82 year resident of the Camas-Washougal area, Harry graduated from Washougal High School where he lettered in Varsity football and was a team captain.
He served as a Merchant Marine in the US Coast Guard during WWII, and later worked as an Automotive Technician before retiring as a Service Manager at Ray Hunt Chevrolet.
A loving husband of 66 years, Harry is survived by his wife Ann Reilly Rasmussen at home. As a devoted father, he leaves behind his sons William (Stephane) Rasmussen of Vancouver, Victor (Laurie) Rasmussen of Camas, Cecil (Arlene) Rasmussen of Washougal, and Donald (Beky) Rasmussen of Vancouver, and his daughter Joeen (Duane) Engler of Longview. He also is survived by his brother Richard Rasmussen of Vancouver, sister Yvonne Goldsmith of Washougal, his thirteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and hunting buddies. He was preceded in death by sisters Ruby Shaw and Darlene Dolinsky.
Harry enjoyed supporting has grandchildren's sports, hunting, fishing, camping, sports, and watching Lawrence Welk. He was a loyal friend, trusted and honest employee, and avid storyteller to the very end.
He was a Past Master at the Clarke Lodge #203 of F & A.M. of Camas, Past District Deputy of the Grand Master for District #19 of the Most Worship able Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Washington, and a member of the North Bank Lodge #182 of the F. & A.M. of Washougal, and a member of Lackamas Chapter #152 of the O.E.S. of Washougal. He was a 60 year member of the Machine and Aerospace Union, a member of the White Salmon Elks Lodge #1868 B.P.O.E. for 24 years, and a member of the Big Foot Camper's Club. He was also a former owner of the Washougal Minit Mart.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service with Masonic Rites and Military Honors for Harry on Wednesday, April 4th at 11:00 am at Brown's Funeral Home in Camas with a reception to follow at Zion Lutheran Church in Camas. Viewing will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday from 9-5:00 pm at Brown's Funeral Home. Memorials in Harry's memory may be made to Hospice Southwest or to the Camas Fire Department.
