I have known Rod for 5 years and in all that time he has always been so supportive of me going to school and working hard. When I was down on my luck he helped me out and I miss my friend. He was truly a great man. I am so very sorry for his family's loss. He is a man I looked up to and I wish I could thank him again for all he has done for me.

I am one who knew Rod only in his capacity as auto mechanic.
I am a single senior woman, and drive a 1995 Kia. Most drivers would have replaced this vehicle by now. Rod has worked on my car numerous times, and over the years I came to trust him implicitly. During my last auto emergency, Rod seemed somewhat apologetic about the expense of the repairs. I told Rod how I trusted his diagnosis of my car. I told him I knew he would never tell me something needs to be fixed when it doesn't, or do anything dishonest to take advantage of me.
He smiled and thanked me, and said something like this: "I've worked hard to earn your trust, and it is very important to me. I know you have limited funds, and I have been looking after your car, to make it last for you as long as possible."
I have lost the most trustworthy auto mechanic I have ever known. I will miss him.

Rod was a good man, a good friend, and one of the nicest people I have ever known.... I was shocked and deeply saddened when I heard the news, for I hadn't talked to him or had stopped by to visit him in months. Rod helped me out in many ways, he gave me work when I started my business, I roofed and painted his new shop and existing house , he gave me advice on everyday life, he always had a drink ready if I stopped by on my way home from work, and he found humor in any situation, we had a lot of laughs over the years... He was also someone who helped me, and kept me from going crazy when I went through my divorce, he always listened to everything I had to say, and then he would give me his opinion or advice which was so much appreciated, and I can't possibly guess how many cars and trucks he worked on for me. But he always helped me fix them, or sent me in the right direction. Yes Rod will be missed , but never forgotten. Rest in peace my brother, SHAWN BADERTSCHER

You couldn't ask for a better friend than Rod. He was always there to help a friend in need. He was a loyal friend to many. Optimistic and positive about life. He had a strong work ethic and was a good member of the Camas/Washougal community. Not that he wouldn't get into mischief, but in all the years I've never known him to be mean. You must be very proud of him. We were fortunate to have him in our lives.
We're not able to be st the service, but if there's anything we can do to help let us know.

My condolences to the family. I met Rod several years ago at Hi Way Fuel. My dad recommended I take my car there since he had been going himself for several years. I have always felt he was sincere and always had my best interest when fixing my car. He will surely be missed!
RIP Rod

Ditto what Cheryl said. I, too, have known Rodney since he was a little kid. He also ran around my brother, Mike. Hard to believe they are both gone. So sad. I remember Rodney reading Popular Mechanics when he was just a little guy. Then I worked with him for a short time at Hilltop Market. Now he has been my mechanic for several years. He was a good guy and will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about Rod's recent passing. I only knew him from taking our family's cars in to Hi-Way fuel, but, what an honest, fair & caring man. Our most recent interaction with Rod was when he took our (newly bought for our teen, but used) car for a test drive after I stopped by and told him I was concerned the brakes still weren't working right after taking the car back twice to another place. (I had it serviced elsewhere instead of Hi-Way - my big mistake!) Anyhow, Rod took the car for a test drive & came back & told me what he thought was wrong. He said I should drive straight back to the other place, slowly, keep my distance form other cars, and if they still insisted there was no problem, they should call him. Well, I told them & they did fix it, and it was Rod's word that finally motivated them to do the right thing. I immediately drove back & thanked Rod for helping keep our family safe. His friends & family have my deepest sympathy. Good mechanic & good man.
