Obituary of Joan Elaine Walker
Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan Elaine (Mallatt) Walker of Washougal, Washington was taken away from us on March 6, 2017. She was 78 years old. Joan was born April 26, 1938, to Gerald and Leta (Payne) Mallatt. She was the oldest of three children, including Patricia (Sis) Mallatt Gadbaw and Gerald (Jerry) Mallatt.
She married George Wayne Walker of Missouri in the Mallatt family home in Camas, Washington, on December 6, 1958. Wayne and Joan had two children, Terry Wayne Walker and Scott Layne Walker, before Wayne died of cancer in May, 1967.
In 1971, Joan moved with the boys to Clatskanie, Oregon, where they resided until 1981. During her years in Clatskanie, Joan found love again. His name was Emmitt Stalick, a big Texan with a twinkle in his blue eyes. He was devoted to Joan until he passed on, leaving her with many treasured memories. After Clatskanie, Joan moved to Vancouver, Washington, where she attended Clark College, and went to work for Bonneville Power Administration. After retirement, she moved to Washougal and spent her years dedicated to her sons, their wives, and her five grandchildren. Her daily joys included keeping in touch with old friends, her family, her garden and the hummingbirds that greeted her every morning.
Joan leaves behind her brother, Jerry and his wife Cathy; her son, Terry and his wife, Doretha; her son, Scott and his wife, Tamara; five grandchildren, three nieces, two nephews, and assorted loving family and friends. Joan was preceded in death by her parents and her sister.
A memorial will be held at the La Camas Lake Lodge in Camas, Washington on Tuesday, April 25, from 4 to 6 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Washington State Democrats, PO Box 4027, Seattle WA 98184-0027 (wa-democrats.org).
