I graduated from high school with Tom and wish to express my condolence to his family. He was a good friend while we were in school and all of his classmates enjoyed his friendship. I was so happy to read about his wonderful life and family. He will be greatly missed, but you have wonderful memories.

My Dad worked for Mr. Meehan many years during the 1960's when he was mill manager at Crown Zellerbach's paper mill in Bogalusa, LA. Coming from different backgrounds, but with much in common, their instant friendship lasted and flourished throughout their entire lifetimes. Both were self-made men with fascinating stories about the Great Depression, World War 2 and the early days of the Civil Rights movement...events that tested and shaped their strong characters. The Meehans had arrived from the East, and were unfamliar with the deep South's culture and traditions, so Dad enjoyed introducing them to family, friends and southern hospitality. At that time, both Tom and Dad were in the prime of their paper mill careers, supporting large families - two wives and thirteen kids between them. In return, every March 17th, Tom had great fun "inducting" everyone he encountered into St. Patrick's Day celebrations. He even made rounds to ensure all were wearing green and "getting with the program" - in his typical no-nonsense way. I'll always remember his great pride and contagious enthusiasm for his Irish background, and will continue to think of him each year on his special day.
