Obituary of Carol Ann Hayden Berg
Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Ann Hayden was born March 12, 1937 in Akron, Ohio, to Roy and Lillian (Shirley) Hayden. She peacefully passed away August 9, 2021.
She was the second of four children. The family lived in Rootstown, Ohio, where they lived on several farms. Carol had many fond memories of growing up in Ohio and farm life.
Carol graduated from Southeast High School in Edinburg, Ohio, in 1955. After Carol's graduation, the family moved to Colton, California, to start a new adventure. It was soon after that Carol met a handsome Air Force man, Robert Berg. Their first date was at newly opened Disneyland. Because Bob had been assigned overseas, the couple married on December 4, 1955.
After Bob returned home, he and Carol settled in Pomona, California, and welcomed three daughters, Diana, Ruth and Judy. Carol was a devoted wife and mother to her young family. She attended night school at Mt San Antonio College and earned credits toward a teaching degree.
In 1966, the family moved to Camas, Washington, where Carol and Bob would live and raise their family for 55 years.
Once her daughters were of school age, Carol became a paraprofessional with the Camas School District. She worked as playground assistant, library assistant and worked with children with disabilities. She had many life-long friendships with her co-workers and was loved by many children. She and Bob both retired in 1996.
Carol and Bob began a life of travel. The couple embarked on many adventures, including several cruises to world destinations and driving trips across the U.S. and Canada. They loved the beach and could be seen many times on their tandem bike on the prom in Seaside, Oregon. They greatly enjoyed the trips and vacation they took with their family.
Carol was a Christ follower and her faith and family were her life. Carol attended the Camas United Methodist Church and Camas Nazarene Church, where she taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, led Bible study groups and volunteered with the women’s group. Carol devoted countless hours serving and helping others. She was a beautiful example of her faith.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Lillian Hayden, and sister Sheri Curtiss. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert of Camas; her daughters, Diana (David) Phillips of Allahabad, India, Ruth (Jess) Blystone of Ventura, CA, and Judy (Doug) Boehning of Camas, WA; brothers Robert Hayden of Redlands, CA, and Roy Hayden Jr. of San Bernardino, CA; grandson Ben Coonrod, Joel (Miranda) Coonrod, Brandon (Beth) Hoang and Ryan Hoang; sister-in-laws, Eileen Costuck and Nancy (Corley) Wooldridge, 6 great-grandchildren, and 6 step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and step great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 1:00 pm at the Camas Church of the Nazarene.
