Obituary of Patti Lynn (Garwick) Mosback

Patti was born on January 13th 1953, in Kankakee, IL to Bill and Dorothy Garwick. She was the third child of six, younger sister of Linda and Susan, older sister of Jan, Billy, and Greg. In 1961, she and her family moved to California for a brief 4 years before settling in Central Point, OR in 1965. She attended school there and graduated from Crater High School in 1971. It wasn’t long after graduation that she moved to Portland, where she worked as a bank teller at First National Bank. It was there that she met the love of her life. She and Ed married in 1979, had 3 children, and shared a beautiful 45 years together. Patti was the epitome of sacrificial love. For 40 years, she served her family in every capacity she could. From raising her three children, to taking care of her husband, to caring for her grandchildren while she was able, everything she did exuded the desire to put other’s needs before her own. She exemplified the verse from Proverbs 31 “She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household”. Patti was always up when it was still dark in the early hours of the morning, making sure that she was first fed from the Word of God, then making sure that breakfast and lunches were ready for the rest of her family before heading to work. Patti was a full-time stay at home mom (super-mom in every way possible) until all her children were in school full-time, then she began her career at the Evergreen School District. But even though she worked a full-time job, Patti still managed to come home every day and make a homemade meal for her family, often from scratch. She insisted that they all would sit together as a family and eat dinner, something deeply instilled in her children to this day. Patti will always be remembered by those around her for her genuine love, hospitality, and most importantly, her unshakable faith in her Lord and Savior. Her children can recount all the times Patti (mom) would be singing songs of praise to Jesus while running errands or doing housework. A song of joy and gladness was never far from her heart. She was always muttering small prayers to Jesus under her breath. If Patti ever met you, it can be almost guaranteed that she was praying for you. When she wasn’t working, Patti enjoyed watching her children play sports. She did not miss a single game and was always the first to volunteer food for a team potluck (confession: Patti hated potlucks almost as much as she hated buffets and would only bring something so she knew it wouldn’t give her food poisoning). During her later years when she became an “empty nester”, Patti decided to dive into a lifelong desire: quilting. She took classes at a local fabric store and found great joy in making beautiful blankets for those she loved. She ESPECIALLY loved making baby blankets for her grandbabies, imagining the day she would get to hold them and snuggle them in the blanket! The final 5 years of Patti’s life were not easy. On March 31st, 2019, Patti was diagnosed with a non-cancerous tumor on her brainstem. The surgery to remove the tumor made her lose her ability to sing and read well, but that never took away her joy or her hope. Despite all her circumstances, Patti never once blamed God or was angry with Him for her lot in life. She instead would choose to wake up each morning and mutter, “well, I guess God’s not done with me yet!” and set out to love as well as she could. In those final years, she will always be remembered for her desire to sit, snuggle, and love on her grandbabies. On July 3rd, 2024, Patti lost her battle with the tumor, but won her race into her Savior’s arms. We mourn the loss of such a wonderful woman but celebrate her full healing and restoration in Heaven. Patti is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ed Mosback of Vancouver, WA; Son: Matthew (Whitney) Mosback of Ridgefield; Son: Michael (Lizzy) Mosback of Spokane; Daughter: Megan (Jared) DeVries of Nooksack. She was blessed to know each of her 9 grandchildren, who will all miss her snuggles dearly.
