Ron Zollo passed away peacefully on December 31, 2013. He was born in Vancouver, WA on February 24, 1943. He is preceded in death by his parents Anselmo and Genevieve Zollo and his stepfather, Fred Bong. He is survived by his cousin Tim Zollo (Alma-Rae Milliken) and his son, Travis Zollo, as well as several cousins in Camas. Ron was a graduate of Hudson's Bay High School and Portland State University, where he earned a B.A in Business Administration. He served in the United States Army and Army Reserves. He spent several years with Dunn & Bradstreet before a long career in professional baseball. Ron worked for one season (1971) for the Portland Beavers. He joined the Tacoma Twins of the Pacific Coast League in 1972 and spent 23 years with the team, the longest tenure of any employee in Tacoma Baseball history. As the Assistant General Manager, Ron was responsible for marketing, promotions and was the in-stadium public address announcer for many years. His "Used Car Night" at Cheney Stadium received national recognition from Joe Garigiola on the NBC Baseball Game of the Week. He was a member of the organization that won two President's Trophies from the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues. Ron was the public address announcer for the 1990 Goodwill Games and called the first international baseball games that Russia ever played. Ron was a collector of sports, entertainment and political memorabilia and was one of the leading authorities of autograph memorabilia in the United States. Ron worked tirelessly on behalf of many non-profit and charitable organizations from Seattle to Portland, helping to raise funds for their organizations. A true and loyal friend, Ron will be missed by the many friends he established around the country. A private burial was held by the family. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Summit Club at Cheney Stadium.
