I have a 78 year old mother, Pauline Taylor Bailey, who has been obsessed with finding out if her baby brother, R.G. was alright. His birthday would have been Feb 4th and the card she sent was returned today "Addressee Unknown" She sends one every year. She was so filled with grief, because she felt in her heart that he had passed and no one could let her know. She will be comforted to know of the kind words spoken about R.G.(Roy)Taylor. I will have to tell her tomorrow, that her fears of losing her last sibling has actually happened. How very sad that we loved him, but, never knew him. Again, thank you to the friends that shared their memories. It would mean so much to my Mom, if anyone wanted to share with her about his last days. God Bless and keep you Uncle R.G.

The following message is one of many replies I received after sending out an email notification on my Freightliner mailing list to let his former coworkers know of his passing. I hired in at Freightliner on the same day as Roy, Nov 27th, 1967. I wasn't a close friend but after serving as a Shop Steward with him and then later seeing him work his way up to Supervisor have always had great respect for him. He was stubborn and bull headed but a straight shooter. If you were honest with him and in trouble, needed help, he would bend over backwards to help you. He saved several peoples jobs at Freightliner. The following was written by (3) of Roy's coworkers: Roy Taylor!! the name strikes us all differently, but for me for the 2 or so years that I was his VERY good friend Roy was ,if nothing else a dedicated person [Roy had trouble having friends for very long as he was a driven person] whether it be as a union steward or as a Freightliner "PMP" supervisor! Roy was my friend even though we would argue literally nose to nose and I [and others] said things to Roy that lesser people would have fired us for. Today I have called my two closed friends,Dan Baker and Kerry Harding and we [me in Az desert and Dan in Ridgefield and Kerry in Dundee] and we all had a toast to the memory of a guy who came up from the "floor" to be as we can say in the final moments,"Roy was my friend and we will miss him!"
