My deepest sympathy goes out to Amy and the rest of her family. I will truly miss Dean's company and sense of humor around the bonfire every February and December while we carefully monitor the progress in the smokehouse!! Dean will always be in my memories of this annual tradition, and remember that you and your family are always welcome to join us. May God hold you in His arms and comfort you during this difficult time. I know Dean will watch over all of us.

Dean and I were brothers in Christ at the University of Washington. He did everything to the best of his abilities and God gave him great abilities. He was a good friend to those around him and my life is better for having known him. I rejoice that he is now in heaven with his Savior.

Dear Amy, We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Dean. I know your heart is aching and we feel so helpless. Although it has been years since we have seen you and Dean we have thought of you so often. We just want to take this time, Amy, to express our sympathy to you. The times we saw you and Dean together, we saw the love in your eyes for each other. Look to your children to see the love that you and Dean created and you will see Dean in them through their eyes, smile or a cute little habit. Dean has not left you, he is just away. The day will come when you will reunite again. Hold that precious thought. Our thoughts are with you as well as our prayers.

I met Dean through his father Ray who has fished with us for years. Dean came to the lodge on numerous occasions with Ray and once with his brother Dale. I found Dean to be outgoing, extremely pleasant and a tribute to his parents. I had the fortune of visiting Rays home for a Christmas party one year and got to meet Amy and enjoy her company as well. I know that Dean was a person who walked his talk and truly loved all of his family. I give all of my condolences to Ray and Kathy and Family for this loss and hope that if there is ever anything that I can do for them, that they will not hesitate to let me know.

I only met Dale, in person, once, but we traded emails several times over the last couple of years. I met him last summer, at the hotel we were both staying at, while attending a Corvette show in Portland. I enjoyed the short time we had to talk. He was interested in my car and it was fun telling him all about it. I wish I could have spent more time with him, but he was weak and his time was way too short. He’s at rest now and I’m sure a much better place. John & Marilyn Underhill Tacoma, WA

Dean was the type of person we'd all like our children to grow up to be. His smile would light up any room. We loved to hear him share about his family, his work, his faith and his walk with the Lord. About a year into his journey with cancer, he came to visit us one afternoon and shared how he looked forward to many wonderful years with Amy and seeing his children grow to adulthood, but if that was not God's plan for him, he placed his complete faith and trust in whatever the Lord had in store for him. That was a powerful statement. The updates he shared periodically about his journey were so positive and inspirational that we shared them with many others. He saw the good in everyone and lived his values. Every time we see a smile, we'll think of Dean and remember....... Walt & Vicky

Amy, Lexie, Patrick, and Andrew, I am at a loss for words...I am so sorry. I have been praying for your family since I found out about Dean's illness. He is an amazing man...I always enjoyed watching him and Lexie interact during preschool. One of my fondest memories was watching your family at the pumpkin patch...Dean was helping Lexie look for the perfect pumpkin. You and your family will continually be in my prayers. Please, please, please, call me or email me if there is anything I can do for you. Take care, Kathy, Matt, Anna, Conan, and Liam Ronayne

In this world, it is rare to come across someone who touched as many people as Dean did. My relationship with Dean started on a business level, but quickly turned into a wonderful, personal friendship as well. The saying "he never met a stranger" was written for someone like Dean. I have nothing but wonderful memories of Dean. One particular time I was waiting for him to pick me up from my Portland Airport hotel, and he was late, as usual. But he promised the wait would be worth it, and sure enough, as we drove back north to Vancouver, we crossed the Columbia River. And looking East we had a beautiful view of Mt. Hood, also reflected in the smooth surface of the water. Dean was also someone who would "stop and smell the roses" along the way, no matter how busy he was. I will miss my friend and colleague. We are so thankful that we had the opportunity to meet and get to know Dean. He touched our hearts with the love he showed for Amy and his children. He expressed his concern for Amy especially. Whenever we saw him we were left feeling so blessed to have spent time with him. Going to the zoo and out to dinner with all of you is a memory that we hold dear. No words can express our sympathy to the Helt family. We are comforted to know that he is in the arms of our Lord and Savior now.

Dear Amy and family, We send our deepest sympathies to you. We share in your sadness at the loss of our brother in Christ. This picture of Dean is beautiful, it's how we'll always remember him; Happy and Spirit filled. I remember the first time I met you both, it was at the Harvest "Discovery Dinner". We both started attending Harvest Community Church at the same time. What a cute young couple I thought you were. Stay strong Amy, put all your trust in the Lord with everything you've got. He'll be faithful to get you through this. We're all praying for you and your family.
