Clyde Stemen McCandlish Sr. peacefully passed away on Monday, August 16, 2010 in Vancouver. Born on December 27, 1918 in Bremen, Ohio to Clarence and Retta McCandlish; Clyde was 91 years old.
A Camas resident since 1946, Clyde worked as a teenager for the railroads. After high school, he went and joined the Merchant Marines. When the United States entered World War II he transferred and served in the United States Navy. After the war he went to work in the bleach plant at Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill; where he worked for over 35 years and was a member of the A.W.P.P.W. Local #5 in Camas. He was also a member of the Camas Moose L.O.O.M. #1042 and the Washougal Eagles F.O.E. #4390, and enjoyed camping and fishing.
Clyde is survived by his beloved wife Alberta at home; children Clyde McCandlish Jr., Betty Wall, and Sharon Ancheta; sisters Bernice Jones and Connie Denis; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
There will be no public services. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
