Gertrude "Liz" Elizabeth Johnson peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at her home in Tacoma, Washington. Born on April 8, 1926 in Manchester, Massachusetts to Harry L. and Gertrude V. (O'Sullivan) MacFarland; Liz was 84 years old.
A 31 year resident of Camas and Vancouver; Liz lived the last seventeen years in Tacoma. She worked as a saleswoman for Montgomery Wards in Portland, Oregon and Sylvania Electric in Salem, Massachusetts before her retirement. She was a Veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean War having been stationed in Norfolk, Virginia and Hawaii. She enjoyed synchronized swimming, knitting, bowling; collecting photographs and sharing stories about her life and heritage.
Liz is survived by her sons Jeffery Allen Johnson of San Fernando Valley, California, and Steven L. Johnson of Camas; daughters Deborah K. Johnson of Tacoma, and Barbara Alverson of Tacoma; five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Floyd H. Johnson.
There will be no public service. A Natural Burial at Sea will be held in the Pacific Ocean. Memorials in Liz's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
