I would like to give my condolences to all of Margaret’s family members. I worked with Margaret and Jim at the United States Embassy in Bamako, Mali. She was a remarkable woman who touch so many lives and she will always hold a special place in my heart. She was also a very loyal and supportive person, who didn’t do things because it was popular at the moment. She will truly be missed.

Like a whirlwind, Margaret came into my life through a mutual friend. Margaret packed a lot into the short time she and Jim were in Warrenton, Virginia. The most memorable one was when they were living in a basement apartment behind the Safeway Grocery store. My husband and I had an awesome Italian dinner with Margaret and her husband at Luigi's in Culpeper where the owner chastised Jim for eating his spaghetti dinner like an American rather than an Italian. After dinner we drove back to Warrenton to their small apartment to met the cats. The conversation did not stay long on her beloved cats, but turned to small electric scooters. Margaret was fascinated when my husband told her he always kept one in the trunk of his car for "emergencies." She made him pull it of the trunk and set it up for her to ride. She jumped on, rev'd it up (at least as much as you can an electric scooter) and at top speed wobbled and bobbled and war-whooped down the cul-de-sac and back. Amazingly, she kept her balance, returning in one piece. It was very apparent that Margaret loved live.

Loved working with Margaret in Moscow. I made her an honorary big sister and teased her like one. See you on the other side, "sis" Eric

Dear Jim, Natasha, Jennifer and family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. Margaret was introduced to me by my brother, Eric Ford. He thought we had a lot in common when he met her in Russia. We have been sharing jokes and stories about our lives since then via e-mail. She brought joy to me every time I opened my e-mail. I enjoyed reading her blogs about her many adventures. May she rest in peace, Penny Ford Craig
