For Laurel, Jair, Hilary & Family,
Frank and I met Stu, in the 1980’s, when we were passionate about beachcombing and glass float collecting, as Stu was. We kept in touch over the years. During two difficult times in my life, Stu gave me spiritual support, which helped me with healing. When he became ill, we started corresponding. He had a deep faith and was an inspiration for me, in my walk with God. Stu was a caring person and he will be forever missed.
May you find strength and comfort in the Lord.

"Uncle Stu" was one of many faces always at the annual Christmas gathering, and since I was the youngest person at that party every year, I remember he was among those that talked to me like I was five until I was almost old enough to drive. As most guys on this side of the family, my father's cousin could get along with just about anybody. Stu also had the signature kind eyes of so many others at those annual early-December gatherings. Because of those traits, it was easy to tell when you had Stu's interest. I noticed that he stopped talking to me like a toddler when he found out I liked hockey. We had always talked about baseball, and with the party often falling on Heisman Saturday, football was another common topic besides discussing how excited I was for the upcoming holiday break. But it was talking about hockey, specifically classic NHL, where I first saw what I consider to be that signature look from Stu. He always knew I loved traditional sports memorabilia as much as his own son, Jair, but now he couldn't wait to show me his collection of classic pucks that I was somehow just learning of. Years later, I found myself at Stuart and Laurel's Keizer home after meeting Jair and his son, Braden, at the local minor-league stadium to see proof of our favorite big-league team's 2010 title. That iconic 30-flag MLB Commissioner's Trophy was the first we had ever witnessed the Giants earn during any of our lifetimes, so a few pictures were a must. I stumbled across them deep into my unsuccessful search for candid shots of Stu, but what remains most memorable for me about that day was Stu's face when presenting HIS trophies. All I can say is that describing the elusive "Original Six" as far more than just half century-old vulcanized rubber discs is something only a passionate man can pull off. He certainly showed me more than his pucks in that moment. Rest in Peace, Uncle Stu! I have known the Farnsworth family almost my entire life ... so I could write a novel about the decades of wonderful memories I have of this marvelous man. Rather, I think it's important for the family, and the world, to know what an impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to have crossed his path. Stuart radiated love! In his presence, he always made me feel like the most important person in the room. When I was in college and after graduation, in my young adult years, one of my favorite things to do was drop in on Babs and Strudal for a surprise visit anytime I was in Keizer. With every visit Stuart's greeting was always spectacular! I'd get the biggest smile, the strongest hug and immediate offer of one of our favorite beverages back then, a Dr. Pepper. Catching up with Stu meant agonizing about how bad the Beavs were in football and how good we knew the baseball team would be. We'd talk school, work, life, etc., Stuart often asking the questions any dad would ask his daughter and offering the wisdom only a father could. Regardless of the length of time between visits, each conversation felt like it was a continuation of our last as if no time had passed. And each time I left Babs and Strudal's home, my soul felt renewed and my heart full. That was love ... that pure, enduring, abounding love he showed to all.
The immense pride he had in his family was always on display. Stuart and Laurel's love story is one for the ages! Unconditional, devoted, genuine and joyful. His children, Jair and Hil, made him beam! And the light in his eyes when he saw and interacted with his grandchildren was sparkling. They made him so incredibly happy!
Processing this loss has been difficult. I see Stuart's face and I can hear his laugh like he's right here next to me. But I believe that's the true sign of someone who has impacted our lives immensely. While we are all left with a tremendous hole in our hearts, maybe questioning how we can honor such a legacy, I am reminded of the time Stuart went frolicking about in a winter storm in Gearhart. The winds were whipping, the ocean waves were 15 ft tall and there he was on the top of a sand-dune in the midst of it all ... LOVING and LIVING in every moment of it! Stuart, I promise to love and live in every moment as you did! Thank you for being the most thoughtful, funny, supportive and brilliant 2nd dad a girl could ask for. I will miss you forever ... and love you eternally!
