Obituary of Stewart Gilgore

Stewart Clifford Gilgore returned to his Lord on Thursday, March 22, 2012 at his home in Camas. Born on April 27, 1927 in Allentown, Pennsylvania to Charles and Lucinda (Chandler) Gilgore; Stewart was 84 years old.
During WW II in South Seas and the Korean War; Stewart served as the oil king on many vessels for the United States Navy. After serving his country Stewart became a member of the Carpenters Union Local #1715 for 55 years as a finish carpenter. He left his mark as a superintendent for many commercial projects in Washington and Oregon. His most challenging endeavor was working on the Ballistic Missile Early Warning Radar System Project in Thule, Greenland. Always the quintessential workaholic, Stewart also enjoyed being an avid cribbage player and a gentleman rancher. He was a very active member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church and could always be counted on when needed.
Stewart is survived by his beloved wife Bena of 47 years; children Stewart (Garnette) Gilgore, Chris (Laura) Gilgore, Deborah Parham, and Anne Marie (Steve) Knebel; four brothers, three sisters, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by Charles and Lucinda Gilgore, Herbert Gilgore, and Veronica Trout.
There will be a Rosary Vigil on Wednesday, March 28th at 6:30 pm at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Camas. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 29th at 11:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church: in Camas. A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Friday, March 30th at 10:30 am at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, March 27th at Brown's Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials in Stewart's honor be sent to Palliative Care of Peacehealth SW Washington Medical Center. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
