Ol' Nick was one of my favorite people growing up in the Sheriff's Office. As a young member of the department, he was always protective but allowed me to grow. His encouragement and his deep caring of people was always present. I used to tease him all of the time about him being the granddaddy of the Reserves and Department, hence my nickname of Ol'Nick. I know there are a lot of wonderful memories out there and I wish his family love & laughter! Lin

To the Families of dear Nick Martell: The Manwells, James Jr., Nickolas and myself, wish to extend our warmest condolences for your loss. My daddy, James C Manwell served with Nick and other local men,ie; JOHN Kelly.Glen Watson;who lived here in Orchards, starting the first volunteer fire Department. They were forever running off to put out grass fires. The whole area was mostly scrub land. Lots of scotch Bloom and dry grasses. Nick Martell lived just south of us. At that time there was very little in Orchards. The Old grocery store, with wood floors; run by Blanch & Bertie. The Feed Store. The Service station Daddy ran for a few years. Orchards Grade School on 117th Ave. and the most important! The ICE CREAM store. I know that all of them,Nick John & Jim, were good friends. Jim (Daddy) has been gone since 2001. May God Bless you all.

I met Nick back in the 70's when I was fortunate to belong to the Clark County Sheriff's Dept. A gentleman in the truest sense. Never saw a frown upon his face nor heard a negative word against anyone. A man of men. His guidance brought a lot of us newby's up to speed. His actions and ideals never wavered whether you were working alongside him, or was in his custody. I had a nice chat with him. when he rode with me, in the funeral procession for Deputy Jim Bennett. It is a loss for all who knew him and we will also have him in our hearts forever. Our Lord is now richer too having Nick with Him. Condolences to the family and believe me, Nick was in a lot of families too.

A man of high integrity and moral decency to all he came in contact with.
I have known Nick since 1973 until the year he retired from the Clark County Sheriff's Reserves.
I wish the family my deepest condolences and I'm so sorry for your loss. Rest in peace my friend!

I really miss Nick. He was not only a good friend, but a mentor as well. Every time I would go home to Hines fron the Washington Coast I would stop and we would have an enjoyable visit. When I lived in Hines I would visit Nick and Barb and those two were something else. Barb would tell stories, Nick would break out the photo albums, and Lucy the dog would join us for the visit. He was a very good photographer and there was a story behind every picture. We spent quite a bit of time in his locksmith shop and he taught me a great deal about the mechanics of locksmithing. In 2005 I bought his old 1978 Datsun pickup from him that he had painstakingly rebuilt, and he would always ask how it was doing. Nick was a one of a kind, rare gem of a person. I am proud to have known him and proud that he shared his life's memories with me. Jon Morgan

I will always remember Nick with the fondest of memories. He was always a very caring person and always smiling. My dad Frank Hannan enjoyed having breakfast with Nick and Barbara. We would meet them at the casino sometimes. After Barbara died Nick continued to join the gang, my dad, Jack and Marie Lucas and Gene and Lynn Sevey. We all have missed him since his accident and look forward to seeing him in Heaven. Patti
