Obituary of Jack Van Oosterhout

Jack Thomas Van Oosterhout returned to his Lord on Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver after a long and courageous battle against cancer. Born on July 31, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois to Thomas and Mary Van Oosterhout, Jack was 64 years old.
A Camas resident for the past 15 years, Jack was formerly of Newark, Delaware. He graduated High School at 16, was an Eagle Scout, earned the Order of the Arrow, and was a graduate of Bradley University and Ball State University garnering an MBA. Jack proudly worked as the President and CEO of Sharp Laboratories of America in Camas, and was a Parishioner at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vancouver.
Being proud and passionate of his work, Jack was granted many patents throughout his career. Outside of work, Jack enjoyed sailing, cycling, woodworking, gardening, fitness, was an avid reader of science fiction. He loved electronics, photography, and traveling to Hawaii with his wife Joan. Most of all, Jack enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
Jack is survived by the love of his life for over 45 years Joan at home; daughter Denise (Eli Wolonik) Hillman of Bear, Delaware; son Chris (Heather McKee) Van Oosterhout of Westport, Connecticut; sister Marie (Gary) Barnes of South Carolina; brother Joe (Becky) Van Oosterhout of Michigan; and three grandchildren Nick, Bret, and Bryan.
There will be a celebration of Jack's life on Thursday, June 17th at 2:00 pm at Brown's Funeral Home in Camas. Donations in Jack's memory may be sent to the American Cancer Society or Doctors Without Borders. Brown's Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
