Frank, My mother sent me John's obituary from the paper in January. His death was thought provoking at the time and I placed the clipping in a book. Today I came across the obituary on reopening the book and decided to contact you. I ran into John a couple of years ago when having lunch with my mom at the Lake Chalet. It was good to see him and I enjoyed chatting with him briefly at the time. He seemed to be holding his own and was very pleasant to talk with. Mom caught me up a bit on John and said that you lived elsewhere. Seeing John then and being informed of his passing reminded me of the adventures we spent in Boy Scouts, including those with your dad on the Indian Heaven 50-milers. I also recall football practices with you. I most vividly remember how tough kids in school were on both you and John. Johnny seemed to get picked on mercilessly. You were tougher and were able to defend yourself better but they kept the teasing and insults coming your way. I do not know how you have adjusted in adult life to the bullying of childhood but I know that John had enough to handle without adding the taunting by his classmates. I merely wanted you to know that I liked John and felt badly for him at times. I respected you for sticking up for yourself and him as well despite the fact that neither of you were physically very big or intimidating. I liked John. He, like the rest of us, just wanted to be liked and be happy. I hope he is at peace. My best wishes for you as well, Frank. Pat Holland

I have known John's family for many years and was a special friend to John for the past 9 years helping him with his everyday living situations. John loved his aunt Eileen Ryan and truly missed her. John loved working at all the different restaurants and doing what ever he could or whatever others needed him to do. He loved his computer friends and all his Pogo playing buddies. John had a heart of gold and became great friends of my family and enjoyed his visits with my cousins and aunt. John had a hard and different life at times after his mother passed but he "hung in there".
Those of us that knew John, know what I am saying when I say he tried to please all and took great pride in his accomplishments. It is now time for John to rest in peace and be with the Lord and his family he missed.

John was a member of the Friends of Fantasy League. We hold tournaments on Pogo.com, mainly in Canasta. And John was one of our most faithful players. He'd never miss a game. He was loved by all of us and he will be dearly missed. He was sweet as can be and always had something nice to say.
He will not be forgotten.

I had the pleasure of meeting John in July 2008. I am from Australia and run the cribbage league that John played in often. I was touring the country and meeting fellow cribaddicts. John and I shared a coffee and a chat, he is true gentleman and was a mean cribbage player. My deepest sympathy to his family not only from me but his cribbage family online. Keep pegging John with the angels. Love Lozzy.
